Danielle Rawlings took a look around her cluttered laundry room and knew it was time for a change. There were shoes, bags, and books piled on every open surface, and Danielle was ready to organize.
After removing everything from the room, Danielle painted the walls a soothing green. She and her husband, Brian, installed a laminate countertop that rests on cleats above the front-load washer and dryer. In between the machines, Danielle left enough space to store a rolling cart for all of her laundry necessities, including detergent and dryer sheets.
When the room is used as Danielle’s office or as a homework station for her three boys, the rolling cart moves out and a barstool provides seating at the countertop.
On the opposite wall, Danielle hung a black storage unit to complement the countertop. It has three cubbies as well as hooks to keep everything organized. Below the storage unit, Danielle placed a matching bench. Similar to its counterpart, the bench has three cubbies, in which Danielle also placed wicker baskets to corral clutter.
To complete the look of her new laundry room, Danielle found decorative boxes and a lamp to accent the colors even more.
Tip: Even if your walls are already painted, always use a primer to achieve the most coverage—you may end up using less of the more costly paint!
