Thanks to Jarret Einck for this fabulous outdoor chandelier project! We think dining by candlelight in the garden is the ultimate summer experience. When's the party, Jarret?
Jarret shaped copper wire (check the electrical aisle at your hardware store or home improvement center) to hold glass votive candleholders. He purchased three 6-foot lengths cut to size. He found the center of one piece and twisted a hanging loop. Tip: Shape the loop around the neck of a bottle. Tightly twist the wire to make an 8-inch “neck.”
To shape the free ends, Jarret curved the wire, using a terra-cotta pot as a guide. “So it’s not kinked, wrap the wire around something solid and smooth,” he says. After forming pleasing curves, he used pliers to coil each end around a votive candleholder. To add more “arms” to the chandelier, he twisted two additional pieces of wire around the neck and repeated the curving and shaping process. “The fun part,” he says, “is to be free with the arrangement and keep manipulating the wire until you get the look you want.”
We think this chandelier would look wonderful in our DIY outdoor structure (you can download the building plans).
