1. Put on your safety gear, then wrap the tiles in the towel. Use the hammer to smash the tiles into 1/2- to 1/4-inch pieces.

Starting at one corner of the faceplate, use the wood stick or putty knife to butter the back of a tile shard with the tile adhesive/grout. Attach the shard to the faceplate. Test-fit other shards, like a jigsaw puzzle, and attach them one at a time to cover the faceplate. Make sure points don’t protrude into the outlet openings or past the plate edges. Let dry for 24 hours.
3. Working in sections, push adhesive/grout between the shards and smear it over the surface. Thoroughly cover errant points or slivers.
4. Use the rag to wipe the adhesive/grout from the surface of the tiles. Continue to wipe adhesive/grout from the surface, but don’t push it out of the joints. After you’ve filled the joints, run the stick or your gloved finger around the edges and the openings to smooth them. Let dry for 24 hours.
