Sign Up for Style
A vintage sign, which doubles as a privacy fence, points the way from the patio to Mike and Alana's backyard. Mike rescued the sign from demolition at a local 1940s-era amusement park.

Showcase a Special Plant
Mike created this simple trellis for a long-cherished bougainvillea. Build this trellis by cutting treated 1×4s into strips and mounting them to the brick wall in a large grid. Mount the trellis with 3-inch screws driven into masonry anchors; use1-inch-thick wood spacers to hold the trellis away from the wall so vines don't grow into the mortar.

Conceal a Water Line
Mike built a small box shaped like a birdhouse to complement the bird-handle spigot.
